Dubrovnik, an old city on the Adriatic Sea coast, south of Croatia, is nicknamed “Pearl of the Adriatic and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one awesome tourist destination in the Mediterranean. The city of Dubrovnik was founded on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, it was the only city state in the Adriatic, much like Venice. The 16th century saw the great progress in the city, gaining tremendous wealth and skilled diplomacy. Likewise, Dubrovnik was one of the centers of evolution of the Croatian language and literature. It boasts of notable poets, playwrights and painters. Dubrovnik is an elite destination and undeniably, one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean. Nine out of Croatia’s fifteen luxurious hotels are in Dubrovnik. It is constantly visited by the most prominent people in the world, even Pope John Paul II came to visit here.
